Job summary

LCA Lab. Corp. of America is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join our team at Henry Ford St John Hospital in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. The role involves screening and evaluating gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to detect any malignant or abnormal conditions.

Qualifications

Job description

Labcorp is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join our team at Henry Ford St John Hospital in Gross Pointe Woods, MI.

Job Responsibilities

• Screen and evaluate any gynecologic or non‑gynecologic specimens sent to the laboratory to determine possible malignant or related abnormal conditions.
• Assist with Fine Needle Aspirations.
• Screen all liquid‑based cytology, both manual and imaged, as well as conventional slides.
• Perform microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens following laboratory procedures and policies.
• Ensure proper documentation of workload recording, including screening and non‑screening activities as required by CLIA and laboratory guidelines.
• Maintain absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.
• Meet slide screening requirements as per standard operating procedure.
• Finalize testing results into the computer in an accurate and timely manner.
• Provide backup for cytology processing and other tasks as needed.
• Comply with all safety, infection control and HIPAA policies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science, cytology clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
• Completion of a cytology program and ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in cytology.
• Three months or more of cytology experience.
• ThinPrep and SurePath certifications.

Additional Job Standards

• Ability to pass slide screening requirements and annual CAP proficiency test.
• Demonstrated understanding of cytology preparation techniques.
• Automated and non‑automated testing experience.
• Understanding of laboratory operations and policies.
• Experience in a high‑volume clinical laboratory environment.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
• High level of attention to detail, strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
• Pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
