Job description

Labcorp is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join our team at University of Tennesse Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday with (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) & rotating half Saturdays (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.).

Responsibilities

• Screen and evaluate any gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens sent to the laboratory for the determination of possible malignant or related abnormal conditions.
• Screening of all liquid based cytology, both manual and imaged, as well as conventional slides.
• Perform microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens following laboratory procedures and policies.
• Ensure proper documentation of workload recording, including screening and non-screening activities as required by CLIA and laboratory guidelines.
• Maintain absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.
• Assist with Fine Needle Aspirations.
• Meet slide screening requirements as per standard operating procedure.
• Finalize testing results into the computer in an accurate and timely manner.
• Provide backup for cytology processing and other tasks as needed.
• Comply with all safety, infection control and HIPAA policies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Cytology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• Completion of a Cytology program.
• ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification.
• TN state Cytotechnologist license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters’ degree in Cytology.
• 3 months or more of Cytology experience.
• ThinPrep and SurePath certifications.

Additional Job Standards

• Able to pass slide screening requirements and annual CAP proficiency test.
• Demonstrated understanding of Cyto preparation techniques.
• Automated and non-automated testing experience.
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures.
• Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems.
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
