Job summary

Labcorp in Torrance, CA is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist II to join our team. You will perform routine cytogenetics procedures, including FISH and karyotyping, and ensure reporting of accurate results to support patient care.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in a chemical/biological sciences and at least three years of lab experience, with specific FISH expertise and California Cytogeneticist license preferred. We offer a stable schedule and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• Three years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• One year of FISH wet lab and FISH analysis.
• California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist License.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
