Job summary

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, 5+ years of cytogenetics experience, and ASCP Cytogenetic Technologist certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.
• Five or more years of cytogenetics laboratory experience.
• ASCP Cytogenetic Technologist certification.
• Continuing education hours as required by licensure or certifying agency.

Responsibilities

• Records pertinent laboratory data on the appropriate form to ensure accurate documentation.
• Participates in regularly scheduled lab meetings to present pertinent information.
• Analyzes banded metaphase spreads and interphase nuclei for genetic abnormalities with 98% accuracy.
• Keeps a daily work log and surpasses the industry standard of 4 full cases for karyotyping and 60 probes for FISH per day.
• Uses imaging equipment to capture high-resolution karyotyping images.
• Attends in-services and continuing education to stay current in cytogenetics.
• Designs or assists in developing new protocols to improve laboratory procedures.
• Ensures quality control policies comply with standards and laws for clinical laboratories.
• Acts as a technical resource for less experienced personnel.
• Practices universal precautions for handling body fluids.
• Assists in overseeing work in one or more areas of specialized laboratory activity.
