UT Health San Antonio is seeking a cytogenetics laboratory technician to support screening of clinical slides and tissue cultures. You will perform staining, chromosome analysis and FISH, while ensuring QA/QC documentation and adherence to standard procedures.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in Cytogenetics or related sciences and preferred 1 year of clinical lab experience, plus ASCP board eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Cytogenetics or related sciences is required.
• NAACLS accreditation in Cytogenetics or related field is preferred.
• One year experience in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory is preferred.
• Certified or eligible to take ASCP Clinical Cytogenetics Board exam.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and participates in specialized technical tasks in screening slides of clinical specimens.
• Prepares tissue culture specimens using cytogenetics culturing and harvesting procedures.
• Performs slide preparation and staining for microscopic analysis using banding techniques.
• Performs routine chromosome analysis and FISH techniques.
• Maintains QA/QC documentation for specimens and reagents.
• Participates in process improvement validation studies.
