Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Histology Technician to prepare tissue specimens for diagnostic review. You will process, embed, cut and stain tissues for light and fluorescent microscopy, and verify quality of slides under the microscope.

The role requires at least 1 year of related experience and a high school diploma or GED. ASCP certification eligibility is preferred, and the position is on-site in San Antonio, TX with standard benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment.
• Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality.
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
• Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Processes, embeds, cuts, and stains surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
• Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation and staining meets laboratory requirements.
• Prioritizes test procedures and completes procedures in a timely manner.
• Maintains proper records of all tests completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Performs instrument maintenance utilizing established protocols.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
