Job description

Summary

This position is located at the Middle School Teen Center, Fort Drum, New York.

Childcare Fees (MWR/CYS)
  • Available to MWR CYS Regular and FLEX (working a minimum of 15 hours).
  • First Child: 100% childcare fee discount
  • Second and Subsequent Child: 25% childcare fee discount

Duties
  • Incumbent performs duties under verbal and written direction of facility director. Assistance and guidance is normally available at all times. Work is reviewed in terms of results achieved IAW standards and procedures.
  • Responsible for operation of the Child and Youth Services (CYS) Homework Center in accordance with applicable regulations. As part of the on‑ratio staff, provides assistance to participants in strengthening their academic and learning skills.
  • Develops linkages with parents, School Liaison Officer, other CYS Program Associates and volunteer tutors to ensure homework center is fully integrated into all applicable program settings.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children/youth. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children/youth.
  • Works with senior staff to provide instruction and training to lower level employees on working in the homework center. Provides input to CYS training plan based on observed training needs. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
Requirements (Conditions of Employment)

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • One‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Successfully complete E‑Verify check.
  • Complete all pre‑employment checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, paragraph 2, including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Successfully complete the Crime Control Act and maintain it. A health assessment is also required.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements, and on‑job competency.
  • Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for health and safety.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at time of employment.
Qualifications

Qualified candidates must possess the following:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • English communication in written and verbal.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, and stand routinely.
  • Health and freedom from communicable disease.
  • CDA/School‑Age/Youth Credential (including Boys and Girls Clubs of America)/Army Youth Practicum.
  • 12 months of experience working in a related field.

Or

  • BA/BS degree with a major in ECE, Elementary Education, Child Development, Home Economics, Special Education, or related field.
  • Direct work experience related to described duties.
  • English communication in written and verbal.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, and stand routinely.
  • Health and freedom from communicable disease.
Education

Proof of education is required at the time of application. Education must be directly related to the position. General Education courses do not count toward the credit total.
