Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provide developmental care and instruction for children and youth aged 6 weeks to 18 years in CYS programs.
  • Actively supervise and account for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth during daily routines, indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, outings, and special events.
  • Assist in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines using prepared curriculum, activity plans, and materials for both group and individual activities.
  • Help arrange and serve appropriate snacks or meals.
  • Identify and respond to emergency situations, including evacuations, illness, and physical or emotional needs.
Requirements
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • A one‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
  • The position requires regular contact with children under 18, in accordance with Section 231 of the Crime Control Act and DoD Instruction 1402.05.
  • Favorably adjudicated background checks are required.
  • Position is subject to immunization requirements; the employee must obtain appropriate immunizations against communicable diseases, including the influenza vaccine, and must pass a pre‑employment physical and subsequent physicals.
  • For positions in Child Development Centers, the employee must be physically able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Must have visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, comply with sight and sound supervision requirements, and provide immediate responses when necessary.
  • Legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training; must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. Failure to achieve required training may result in separation.
  • May work an uncommon tour of duty that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate program schedules.
  • Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors; occasional field trips may be required.
