Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, offers multiple undergraduate internship openings through the Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI) for summer 2027. Interns will work on cybersecurity projects aligned with LLNL's national security missions, with mentors and hands-on access to lab tools and facilities.

Qualifications

• Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in Cybersecurity, CS, Engineering, Mathematics or related fields.
• Ability to apply basic principles of computer science to solve cybersecurity problems.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills.
• Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Exposure to machine learning/AI; network analysis; intrusion detection; cryptography; reverse engineering; incident response; malware analysis; systems programming; threat/risk/attack characterization; OT/ICS cybersecurity; software tool development.
• Coursework or experience in network/protocol analysis; intrusion detection; cryptography; reverse engineering; incident response; malware analysis; systems programming; threat/risk/attack characterization; OT/ICS cybersecurity; software tool development; ML/AI.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical/research support to cybersecurity projects with scientists, engineers, and staff.
• Participate in research under supervision in areas such as network/protocol analysis, intrusion detection, reverse engineering, incident response, malware analysis, and software tool development.
• Gather and analyze data in support of scientific research.
• Participate in research planning and evaluation discussions.
• Attend seminars and training classes (at least one per week).
• Present work in seminars or posters.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
