About the Agency

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid responsibly provides access to quality health coverage for vulnerable Mississippians. Medicaid provides health coverage for eligible, low-income populations in Mississippi. These populations include children, low-income families, pregnant women, the aged and disabled.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Security monitoring: Review alerts from SIEM, EDR/XDR, firewalls, identity systems, cloud platforms, and other security tools.
• Incident response: Investigate suspicious activity, determine scope and severity, contain threats, and help with remediation.
• Threat analysis: Correlate logs and indicators to determine whether activity is benign, suspicious, or malicious.
• Vulnerability management: Review vulnerability findings, prioritize remediation, and work with infrastructure/application teams.
• Identity and access security: Investigate unusual authentication, privilege escalation, account compromise, MFA issues, etc.
• Security investigations: Perform endpoint, network, email, identity, and sometimes cloud investigations.
• Documentation: Create clear incident reports, investigation notes, tickets, and procedures.
• Automation: Use scripting - often Python, PowerShell, or SQL to reduce repetitive work.
• Security improvement: Identify recurring problems and recommend ways to improve detections, controls, and processes.

What you'll need to be Successful

To be successful in this role, the employee will need strong investigative skills and the ability to identify what happened, when it occurred, what systems or accounts were involved, how the activity started, and what actions followed. The employee should develop a strong understanding of the organization’s cybersecurity tools, including SIEM, EDR, identity, email security, vulnerability management, firewall, and cloud security tools. Strong knowledge of logs, networking, identity management, Active Directory, and common cybersecurity threats will also be important when reviewing and investigating security incidents. The employee should have basic scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, and SQL to help analyze information and automate repetitive tasks. Familiarity with the MITRE ATT&CK framework will help the employee understand common attack methods and identify evidence during investigations. Finally, the employee must be able to clearly document findings, actions taken, remaining concerns, and recommended next steps so that other team members can easily understand and continue the investigation.
