The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services is seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst III, a senior-level role responsible for ensuring the security, integrity, and reliability of the agency’s information systems. This position performs advanced cybersecurity monitoring, analysis, and incident response, while also providing technical guidance to junior analysts and collaborating with IT leadership to strengthen MDRS’s overall security posture.The incumbent will lead daily security operations such as reviewing security logs, analyzing alerts, managing endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools, conducting vulnerability assessments, and responding to security incidents. This role includes the administration and optimization of MDRS security technologies, including firewalls, SIEM platforms, secure email gateways, endpoint protection tools, identity access systems, and cloud security controls. The Cybersecurity Analyst III will evaluate threats, investigate potential compromises, and coordinate mitigation strategies to reduce risk.Additional responsibilities include developing and maintaining security policies, procedures, and documentation; ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations; supporting internal and external audits; and contributing to agency-wide security awareness training. The incumbent will also participate in risk assessments, oversee remediation efforts, and collaborate with networking, infrastructure, and application teams to integrate security best practices into new and existing systems. This position plays a key role in MDRS’s Zero Trust, identity security, and incident readiness initiatives.

What you’ll need to be Successful

To be successful in this role, you must have extensive knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks, and technologies. This includes proficiency in threat detection and analysis, SIEM operations, vulnerability management, incident response, and securing cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Azure. A deep understanding of firewalls, EDR/XDR solutions, email security systems, secure configurations, and network security fundamentals is essential. You will need strong skills in identifying, investigating, and mitigating security threats, including interpreting system logs, analyzing suspicious activity, and applying remediation strategies. Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements—such as NIST, CIS Controls, HIPAA, or state security standards—is critical for supporting audits and maintaining a compliant security environment. The role requires excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently on complex security issues. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary to clearly convey technical findings, develop documentation, and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
