Job summary

Watsco is seeking a Customer Solutions Engineer to partner with strategic HVAC clients, translating business needs into maintainable software solutions. You will develop integrations, ETL pipelines, and API connectors while leveraging AI tools to accelerate delivery.

You will communicate complex architectures to non-technical stakeholders, own technical delivery, and contribute to product features based on recurring client requests.

Qualifications

• 4-5+ years of hands-on software development, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical consulting.
• Proficient in Python or Node.js/TypeScript for data processing and automation.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, and secure authentication mechanisms.
• Experience with cloud services and handling scheduled or event-driven jobs.

Job description

As a Customer Solutions Engineer, you will embed with our most strategic clients to solve their toughest technical challenges. You aren't just writing backend code-you are sitting across from HVAC business owners, operations leads, and IT directors to translate business pain points into elegant, maintainable code.

We take an AI-first approach to engineering and delivery. You will leverage modern LLMs, code generation tools, and automation frameworks to build integrations, custom data transformations, and workflow scripts at 10x speed while keeping solutions maintainable and secure.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Technical Delivery: Partner with strategic clients to understand their software ecosystem, map out data workflows, and build high-impact custom solutions (integrations, automated sync scripts, custom API webhooks, and ETL pipelines).
• Customer-Facing Translation: Serve as the primary technical consultant for strategic accounts—translating complex software architecture into clear, plain-English solutions for non-technical stakeholders.
• AI-First Execution: Rapidly prototype and deploy custom scripts, API connectors, and automated jobs using LLM-assisted workflows (e.g., AWS KIro, Claude, custom GPT agents) to minimize turnaround time.
• Reliability & Maintainability: Ensure all custom scripts, background jobs, and API integrations are well-documented, observable, and built to run reliably in production environments.
• Feedback Loop: Partner with our core Product & Engineering teams to turn recurring custom client requests into scalable, out-of-the-box product features.

Who You Are

• Experience: 4-5+ years of hands-on experience in software development, solutions engineering, customer-facing technical consulting, or technical ops.
• Technical Proficiency:
• Strong skills in Python (or Node.js/TypeScript) for writing data processing scripts, background jobs, and API connectors.
• Deep understanding of REST APIs, Webhooks, JSON/XML parsing, and authentication mechanisms (OAuth, API keys).
• Familiarity with database queries (SQL), cloud services (AWS/GCP/Azure), and running scheduled/event-driven jobs (Cron, serverless functions, background workers).
• AI-First Mindset: You actively use modern AI tools and LLMs to accelerate coding, generate boilerplate scripts, build custom agents, and automate repetitive tasks.
• Customer-Centric Communicator: You are comfortable leading client discovery calls, presenting technical architectures, and explaining edge cases with empathy and clarity.
• Execution-Minded: You prefer shipping working software to over-engineering complex architectures. You know when a lightweight script is better than a full microservice.
