City of Arlington seeks a library assistant to provide reference and reader advisory services, helping patrons find information and reading materials. You will use basic search skills across print and electronic databases and assist with circulation, fines, and data entry in the automated system.
Responsibilities include shelving with Dewey Decimal classification and supporting collection maintenance. Some duties may extend beyond listed tasks, reflecting library needs and priorities.
Under general supervision, provides reference and readers advisory services; assists customers with specialized library operations; and performs other recurring Library duties.
Assist patrons with information, education and recreational reading needs through reference and reader advisory services while utilizing basic search and retrieval skill.
Sources of information may include print material, electronic research databases and community information sources or organizations.
Negotiate patron account information, to apply library circulation policies and procedures, to perform standard data entry tasks utilizing automated circulation system; and ability to collect fines and fees through a cash management system.
Respond to multiple demands for information from the public and adjust to change with respect to the subject matter or the information need expressed in the user's inquiry.
Shelve library materials using knowledge of the Dewey Decimal classification system and assist with collection maintenance activities.
On a nontypical basis, may perform other additional duties not listed in this description that are in alignment with the scope of essential job functions.
