Job summary

Gail Borden Public Library is seeking a part-time Customer Relations Assistant at the Gail Borden Public Library Main location in Elgin. You will welcome and assist library customers, provide directions, help locate materials, and deliver friendly service.

The ideal candidate enjoys public interaction, has strong communication skills, and is comfortable working in a team to support daily library operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Customer service experience preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
• Bilingual English/Spanish desirable.

Responsibilities

• Checks books and other materials in/out, renews items, and places holds for customers.
• Signs customers up for new library cards and updates their account information.
• Assists customers register for library programs, classes, and events.
• Helps customers use library equipment and connects them with other staff if needed.
• Keeps the collection organized by returning books and materials to their proper place.
• Assists customers with finding books and materials.
• Contributes to the day-to-day work of the Customer Relations team.

Join the Customer Relations team at our busy Gail Borden Public Library Main location as a part-time Customer Relations Assistant. In this customer-focused role, you will welcome and assist library customers, provide directions and information, help customers locate materials and resources, and deliver friendly, knowledgeable service. The ideal candidate enjoys working with the public and is committed to creating a positive experience for every library customer.

Primary job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Checks books and other materials in and out, renews items, and places holds for customers.
• Signs customers up for new library cards and updates their account information.
• Assists customers register for library programs, classes, and events.
• Helps customers use library equipment and connects them with other staff if needed.
• Keeps the collection organized by returning books and materials to their proper place.
• Assists customers with finding books and materials.
• Contributes to the day-to-day work of the Customer Relations team.

18 hours per week - includes day, evening, and weekend hours. Schedule may vary from week to week.

Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour + prorated time-off benefits.
