Job summary

Walker County Government is seeking a Transit Driver to operate a 10-passenger van on local routes. The role emphasizes exceptional customer service and strict adherence to federal, state, city, and county safety regulations.

Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Fluency in English required; knowledge of Spanish desirable.
High School diploma or GED.
Past job experience working with the public in a service-oriented or healthcare environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

Completes daily pre-trip vehicle inspection report before starting daily run, including van walk around.
Checks operating systems – brakes, horn, windshield wipers, lights, turn signals, emergency flashers, door-opening devices.
Runs the daily dispatch schedule and obtains route assignment at shift start.
Assists loading and transporting passengers to appropriate destinations per County guidelines; assists elderly and disabled passengers as needed.
Picks up and discharges passengers at bus stops or stations; announces stops per ADA.
Maintains contact with dispatcher and other drivers via two-way radio; reports emergencies and safety concerns.
Collects fares correctly, prepares transfers, and provides route information to passengers; maintains passenger counts and completes required paperwork.
Balances cash receipts and ticket books twice weekly.
