Job summary

Walker County Government’s Transit Department seeks a driver for its 10-passenger vans. The role centers on delivering excellent customer service, strict safety compliance, and accurate fare handling as part of daily operations.

You will perform pre- and post-trip inspections, assist passengers including the elderly and disabled, announce stops, and maintain records. A valid driver’s license and English fluency are required, with a High School diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• English fluency required; Spanish desirable.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Past experience in public service or healthcare environments is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Completes daily pre-trip vehicle inspection report and walk-around checks.
• Operates a non-CDL 10 passenger transit van on assigned routes.
• Loads and transports passengers per county guidelines; assist elderly/disabled riders.
• Announces stops per ADA requirements and communicates with dispatcher.
• Collects fares accurately and prepares transfers; maintains passenger counts and records.
• Balances cash receipts and ticket books; completes required paperwork.
