Job summary

OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team seeks customer-focused software engineers to build custom software leveraging OpenAI’s APIs to solve real customer problems. You will design abstractions, scale delivery speed and quality, and work with Sales, Solutions Engineering, and Customer Success on the same accounts.

This role is based in Seattle with a hybrid model (3 days in the office per week). Travel up to 50% is required, and relocation assistance is offered to help you relocate.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional full stack engineering experience; customer-facing experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL/MySQL.
• Former founder, or early engineer at a startup who built a product from scratch is a plus.
• Relational databases experience and ability to design scalable data models.

Responsibilities

• Embed deeply with strategic customers to understand their business challenges and technical requirements.
• Design, architect, and develop full-stack solutions using an experiment-driven, iterative approach.
• Prepare detailed scopes of work and project plans for proof-of-concept prototypes and full deployments.
• Work hands-on with customers' technical teams as a technical expert and trusted advisor.
• Collaborate with Product, Research and Applied teams to ensure seamless customer experiences and actionable feedback.
• Contribute to internal knowledge bases and codify best practices from customer engagements.
