Job summary

The OpenAI Deployment Company is seeking a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer to lead complex customer deployments end-to-end. You will set the bar for technical and business value delivery, guiding strategy and building reusable deployment primitives. The role is based in San Francisco or New York with a hybrid in-office model and relocation support.

Expect up to 50% travel. You will mentor teammates, translate field experience into product feedback, and work closely with OpenAI core functions

Qualifications

• Must have at least 4+ years of engineering or technical delivery experience.
• Experience building reusable capabilities under ambiguity.
• Led high-pressure technical projects from prototype to production.
• Proficient in production-grade code across frontend and backend using JavaScript or Python.
• Ability to make fast, sound decisions in ambiguous environments.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead for customer engagements, owning problems end-to-end.
• Operate with agency, delivering outcomes through clarity, speed, coordination, and high technical quality.
• Guide deployment strategy and help define DeployCo’s operating model for swift, safe execution.
• Define and build deployment primitives that increase customer impact and engagement velocity.
• Operate as a player-coach, setting a high bar for execution while growing the team.
• Codify successful patterns into tools, playbooks, and roadmap inputs for leverage.
• Identify early signals and elevate them with urgency across product, environment, or delivery.
