Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Checker in our Grocery department. You will operate the register, assist customers throughout the store, and help ensure every visit ends on a positive note.

Responsibilities include greeting customers, processing payments, handling cash and refunds, and maintaining store standards. The role emphasizes accuracy, compliance and teamwork in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
• Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every visit great.
• Operate the cash register and process all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, in-store charges, and lottery transactions.
• Count back change, issue receipts, and provide refunds or credits as needed.
• Ensure compliance with guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, and lottery sales.
• Stock, bag, and rotate merchandise and assist with drive-up and carry-out service.
• Stay knowledgeable of item numbers, department numbers, and weekly ad changes.
• Keep the register area clean and report cash discrepancies.
