Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Checker in the Grocery department to operate the register, assist customers, and help ensure every visit ends on a positive note. You’ll greet customers, process various payment types, and help with bagging and basic store assistance.

Guided by store policies, you’ll follow rules for WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, and lottery sales, while maintaining accuracy and teamwork across shifts to deliver excellent service.

Qualifications

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks with a few concrete variables.
• Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Understand and follow directions and communicate supply needs clearly.
• Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and assisting them throughout the store.
• Operate the cash register accurately, handling cash, checks, cards, coupons, and other payment forms.
• Count back change, issue receipts, and process refunds or credits as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines for WIC, food stamps, tobacco, liquor, and lottery sales.
• Stock, face, rotate merchandise, keep shelves clean, and assist customers to items when requested.
• Maintain knowledge of item lookup numbers, department codes, and weekly ad changes.
• Keep the register area organized, report cash discrepancies, and communicate with teams as needed.
• Support store safety, promotions, and special events as directed by management.
