Job description

The Custodian (temporary) is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the College. Instructions to the employee are generally specific; however, there are times the employee must consider different courses of action to complete the task.

Essential Functions:

1. Empty wastebaskets and trash containers.
2. Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Refill restroom dispensers.
3. Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, polish, or vacuum floors; clean chalkboards and erasers; replace light bulbs.
4. Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
5. Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing more than 75 pounds with assistance.
6. Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum, extract and shampoo carpets.
7. Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
8. Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
9. Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
10. Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
