About Springfield City School District

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an Assistant Custodian for the 2025-2026 school year. We serve approximately 7,500 students from Pre-K through grade 12 across 17 modern buildings in west-central Ohio. We value diversity and aim to promote social and emotional growth through various initiatives including a 1:1 device program and the YouMedia Center, a digital learning lab with activities like 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of custodial and basic maintenance techniques through training or experience

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and recycle materials as per the recycling program
• Clean restrooms and locker rooms daily, replenish supplies
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on facilities and equipment
• Set up and take down equipment for events and activities
• Operate cleaning and maintenance equipment to ensure a safe environment
• Assist in cafeteria during lunch and help clean the kitchen
• Guard property against fire, theft, and unauthorized entry, obey all safety regulations
• Provide security by monitoring the building during open hours and securing all access points during closed hours, respond to Sonitrol alarms in the absence of the Head Custodian
• Close the building by turning off lights, locking doors and windows, and unlocking as needed
• Perform groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, trimming, snow removal, and trash collection
• Lift and move equipment, furniture, and supplies (up to 80 lbs, up to 50 yards)

What We Offer

This is a part-time position working 8 hours per day, 260 days per year, Monday through Friday. Starting salary is $19.33 per hour. Benefits and professional development are provided. Salary details are available in the Springfield Education United Support Staff agreement (SEUSS).
