Position Management Guide

Summary of Purpose: This position is responsible for custodial and light maintenance tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations & Safety, Lead Custodian, or designee. It is a hands-on role (95% hands-on, 5% office) with shifts assigned as needed.

Essential Functions

1. Perform custodial duties for the assigned building and assist with extra hours on short notice.
2. Support event setup and cleanup as assigned.
3. Ensure quality control for buildings and grounds, reporting results as needed.
4. Maintain lawns, fields, and shrubbery.
5. Participate in snow removal, emergency responses, and be available for all-hazards calls; response is mandatory.
6. Perform minor repairs on custodial equipment and fixtures, forwarding major maintenance requests appropriately.
7. Monitor equipment and supplies for safety and functionality.
8. Assist in ordering supplies, conducting inventories, and managing refuse and snow removal.
9. Stay updated on custodial trends and practices.
10. Assist district courier and maintenance staff as needed.
11. Respond to emergency situations as directed.
12. Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
13. Maintain courteous relationships with staff and uphold confidentiality.

Scope and Impact

This role involves adherence to standard operating procedures, with interactions primarily with school staff, students, parents, and the public.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Director of Operations & Safety and Lead Custodian.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; custodial and maintenance experience preferred. Valid PA driver’s license, ability to obtain clearances, and certifications in first aid, AED, and CPR required. Additional certifications as needed.

Special Skills

Ability to operate hand tools and custodial equipment, proficient in basic computer use, organized, communicative, team-oriented, and able to respond independently to changing circumstances.

• Physical: Sit 5%, walk/stand 95%, lift 60+ lbs, work off ladders.
• Mental: Ability to evaluate and interpret communications.
• Environmental: Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various temperatures and conditions, including chemicals.
