Responsibilities

• Empty waste receptacles and manage basic custodial tasks; perform light maintenance as needed.

Position: Evening Custodian (Part-Time or Full-time)

Reports to : Elementary Principal

Position Overview

Kalamazoo Christian Schools is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and school community. This position plays a vital role in supporting our educational mission by ensuring our classrooms, common spaces, and facilities are hygienic, well-maintained, and ready for learning every day.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Duties

• Sanitization & Restrooms: Thoroughly clean and sanitize all student and staff toilets, urinals, and sinks. Check and restock paper towels, hand soap, and toilet paper across all campus restrooms. Clean bathroom mirrors.
• Floors & Surfaces: Vacuum primary classrooms, administrative offices, main entryways, hallways, and the central atrium.
• Classrooms & Shared Spaces: Inspect classroom soap, hand sanitizer, and paper towel supplies. Clean up and organize the staff lounge.
• Trash & Waste: Empty and service all waste receptacles; wash trash cans as needed.

Weekly Duties

• Restroom Care: Deep clean all toilets.
• Specialty Rooms: Vacuum secondary instructional spaces at least once per week (Library, After School Program rooms, Music room, Art room).

Other Duties

• High Dusting: Dust tops of lockers, door frames, and high surfaces throughout the facility.
• Detail Cleaning: Clean interior windows, entry glass, display case glass, and window sills.
• Custodial Supplies: Maintain and organize the custodial stock room (trash bags, paper products, cleaning supplies).
• Carpet Care: Spot-clean carpeted areas as spills or stains occur.
• Minor Repairs & Maintenance: Perform light repairs, minor assembly, and basic maintenance of classroom, office, and facility items as needed.
• Event & Seasonal Support: Assist with facility preparation for special school events and seasonal deep cleaning as time permits.
• School Break Projects: Assist with additional cleaning, maintenance, and facilities projects during school breaks.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 50 lbs), and operate custodial equipment (vacuums, floor machines) for extended periods.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Experience: Prior custodial or commercial cleaning experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.
• Maintenance Skills (Preferred): General mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair basic items around the school—including furniture, fixtures, classroom equipment, and other minor facility needs is a plus.
• Clearance: Must successfully pass a background check prior to hire.

• Hours: Open to Part-Time or Full-Time candidates
• Compensation: Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
