Job summary

Northwest Christian Schools is seeking a part-time Custodian to support a clean, safe environment for students and staff by performing routine cleaning and light maintenance on campus.

The role requires a high school diploma, basic cleaning knowledge, prior custodial experience, and the ability to work evenings or weekends for events. Starting pay is $17.15 per hour, with 20–25 hours per week and eligible for a tuition discount.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning tasks in classrooms and offices, including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing desks, chairs and high touch areas.
• Ensure that restrooms are sanitized and well stocked with supplies.
• Clean and maintain common areas such as hallways, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
• Care for different types of flooring in classrooms and hallways, including carpet and tile, through regular cleaning and maintenance.
• Empty trash bins in classrooms and common areas and replace liners as needed.
• Ensure exterior areas such as entryways and walkways are clean, safe, and free of debris.
• Monitor and report inventory levels of cleaning supplies, ensuring that they are always readily available.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing loose fixtures, and reporting any maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow safety guidelines to ensure a safe and hazard-free school environment.
• Provide support for school events, including setting up and cleaning up after special occasions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation, Benefits & Schedule

• Compensation: Starting at $17.15/hour, depending on experience.
• Schedule: Part-time with scheduled hours approximately 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility to work hours between 3:30pm through 12:00am. This school year position follows the school calendar for the academic year, including school closures.
• Benefits: Eligible for tuition discount.
• Time Off: Paid personal time off for vacation, illness, appointments, and personal needs. School closures (e.g., Christmas Break, Spring Break) are generally unpaid unless requested by supervisor to complete specific projects/tasks.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

General Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Model a life of personal commitment to Jesus Christ by exemplifying a lifestyle that honors God and actively participating in a local, Bible-believing church. Must be willing to affirm and abide by the Schools’ Statement of Faith.
• Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and equipment.
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience.
• Ability to work well in a school environment with students and staff present.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
• Must be reliable and punctual.
• Evening or weekend work may be required for events.
• Must be able to pass a National and Washington State Patrol background check.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods of time.
• Ability to climb ladders and step stools to reach high surfaces or change light bulbs.
• Ability to safely operate standard janitorial equipment, including vacuums, floor-cleaning machines, carts, and other cleaning tools.
• Ability to work in environments that may involve dust, odors, cleaning chemicals, temperature changes, and occasional exposure to bodily fluids or other potentially hazardous materials.
• Work may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and allergens.
• Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds.
