Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking a Custodian Lead in the Wisconsin Union – Union South/Memorial Union area. The role oversees cleaning, training, and supervision under a Custodial Services Supervisor, with responsibilities for maintenance, inventory, and safety compliance.

Shift is 3rd shift (approx. 10pm–6:30am or 10:30pm–7pm) with 40 hours per week, indoors and outdoors work, and additional pay for night, weekend, and holiday hours as described.

Qualifications

• Ability to walk, stand, lift, carry, bend, stoop and climb for long periods.
• Ability to lift and move supplies up to 50 lbs regularly and 100 lbs occasionally.
• Experience with outdoor winter duties such as removing snow and ice is required.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
• Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
• Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
• Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
• Schedules, monitors, and communicates with staff and assists with basic training
• Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
• Responds to facility emergency and hazardous situations, and escalates incidents according to established policies and procedures

Job Category: University Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Custodian Lead. Custodian Lead position is a team member of the Wisconsin Union -Facilities Custodian Team. Lead worker duties that include assisting in training new employees, inspect progress and quality of building services. Basic duties include routine maintenance and cleaning, trash removal, and snow removal. Other duties will be assigned as needed. Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor. Applicants may be used for future opening also.

• Shift hours are 3rd Shift, 10pm - 6:30pm (Union South) or 10:30pm - 7pm (Memorial Union), days of week worked will rotate. 40 hours per week。
• At UW-Madison- Union South (1308 West Dayton Steet, Madison WI 53705) Memorial Union. (800 Langdon Street, Madison, WI 53706)
• Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors。

Compensation

• $18.91 per hour
• Plus an additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am)
• Plus an additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked
• Plus Time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays

Required Qualifications

• Ability to walk, stand, lift, carry, bend, stoop and climb for the majority of the shift, including extended periods of continuous physical activities with or without an accommodation
• Ability to lift and move supplies, equipment and material regularly up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to remove snow and ice outside during cold weather

• Experience working at same position for 3 months or more
