Job summary

The College of DuPage is seeking a full-time Custodian for the 3rd shift to maintain cleanliness across campus buildings, perform setups, snow removal, and project work in accordance with College policies.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of work history; two years custodial experience preferred. Starting pay is $18.50 per hour with third shift differential, and the College provides a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain all College buildings per policy.
• Dry and wet mop, strip, wax, and buff floors.
• Vacuum carpet, spot clean, shampoo, and extract as assigned.
• Clean and dust furniture, blinds and surfaces; polish as needed.
• Perform restroom and locker room cleaning and disinfection.
• Interior and exterior window cleaning; waste removal.

The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. We prepare students for a lifelong passion for learning on our 273-acre campus which is home to nine associate degrees and a wide variety of professional and technical certificates. Many of these credentials prepare students to seamlessly articulate into the baccalaureate programs of our higher education partner institutions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform custodial duties, including setups, snow removal, and major project work throughout all College buildings in accordance with established College policy and procedures.

• Dry and wet mop, strip, wax, and buff all types of floors.
• Vacuum carpet, spot clean, shampoo and extract on an assigned basis.
• Clean and dust furniture, blinds and other surfaces, polish as needed.
• Perform restroom and locker room cleaning and disinfection.
• Interior and exterior window washing.
• Waste removal and proper disposal of waste materials.
• Set up and move furniture for classes, conferences and events, and relocation.
• Work various shifts and schedules.
• Other related duties as assigned.
• May drive College vehicles to transport items across campus.
• Power wash sidewalks, bleachers and exterior furniture.
• Snow removal using snow blower or shovel.

Working Conditions:

• Walk-behind/stand-on/ride-on automatic floor machines, carpet/furniture extraction equipment, buffers/orbital floor machines, upright vacuum cleaners, mops, shovels, snowblowers, various cleaning chemicals, other miscellaneous equipment.
• Walking for long periods of time, standing, bending.
• Climbing/cleaning stairs, ladders, lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Ability to see and hear at normal levels.
• Employee will work scheduled shift, as directed, to meet existing and changing needs of the Custodial Department.
• Shift schedules will change from time to time depending on production requirements established by Campus Services Department.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must pass physical exam, drug test, and background check at College expense.

Hours: 9:30pm-6:00am Monday-Friday

Hiring Range:
4 Hourly Starting salary beginning at $18.50/hourly + 3rd shift differential.
