Job summary

UW–Madison is hiring Custodian for 3rd shift to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming spaces across campus. You will perform routine cleaning, handle waste, and assist with snow removal as needed, under supervision of Custodial Services Supervisor.

This full-time, 100% FTE role includes weekend and holiday coverage as required. Ongoing/renewable position with generous benefits, including health, dental, vision, life insurance and retirement plan.

Qualifications

  • Availability to work overtime and weekend hours when needed.
  • Previous cleaning or custodial experience preferred.

  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities

Custodians are essential to the daily success of the university, supporting teaching, learning, research, and events by ensuring that campus spaces are cared for with pride and professionalism.

We are currently hiring for 3rd shift roles, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on campus during overnight hours. The Custodian position performs a variety of custodial tasks necessary for the routine cleaning and maintenance of university buildings.

Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas; emptying trash and recycling containers; and moving furniture and equipment to support cleaning needs and campus activities. Custodians also play an important role in observing and reporting maintenance or safety concerns to help maintain high standards across campus.

This role requires moderately heavy physical effort, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies. Occasional overtime may be required to assist with snow removal or emergency cleanup.

Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor and in collaboration with a supportive team committed to service excellence.

The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities. Compensation

$17.00 per hour -Plus an additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am). -Plus an additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked. -Plus time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays. Current UW-Madison employees may be eligible to be hired up to their current rate of compensation, based on qualifications.
