Position Summary

The Custodian performs housekeeping duties in accordance with established standards and instruction in order to maintain a safe, comfortable, and clean learning environment for students, staff, and the public. The Custodian works effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. This is an essential personnel position. This position must report to work or remain at work as directed to provide emergency services such as snow/ice removal or other emergency related services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following are the functions essential to performing this job

  • Perform housekeeping duties to include, but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping and waxing floors; vacuum & shampoo rugs and carpets; clean and dust furniture; clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms, restrooms and food service/dining areas; wash windows, window sills and frames.
  • Wash and/or clean interior wall spaces by hand or with powered wall washing machines, working on ladders and scaffolding, as required.
  • Remove trash and recycling from buildings.
  • Operate all related custodial equipment, to include but not limited to, upright vacuum cleaners, backpack vacuum cleaners, electric buffers, and carpet extractors.
  • Maintain communications via two-way radio while on campus.
  • Check e-mail on a daily basis
  • Remove snow and/or ice from steps, sidewalks, and parking areas using shovels snow blowers, tractors, and other snow removal equipment.
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of supplies equipment and chemicals.
  • Report to work, or remain at work, as directed during adverse conditions as essential personnel, even if the College is closed or delayed.
  • Provide custodial coverage for weekend events as scheduled.
  • Perform inspections and light maintenance, as directed.
  • Assist in set-ups, loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, as necessary.
  • Move heavy furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment, as directed.
  • As a designated Essential Personnel position, the Custodians are required to report for work or remain at work as directed, even if the College is closed or delayed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Ability to lift, move, carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and ascend and descend stairs
  • Experience communicating via e-mail.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of commercial housekeeping experience
  • Experience using equipment utilized for commercial custodial services
  • Experience with the proper use and control of custodial chemicals

Work Schedule

Tuesday through Saturday 6:30am to 3:00pm
