Job summary

State of Wyoming is seeking a full-time night custodian to perform general cleaning in offices, restrooms, and common areas, move furniture for meetings, and prep conference rooms as needed. The ideal candidate will follow OSHA/EPA guidelines, handle cleaning chemicals safely, operate cleaning equipment, and pass a background check.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 0–6 months in Building and Grounds, or 1–2 years as substitution.

Responsibilities

• Clean offices, restrooms, and common areas; vacuum, mop, dust, and restock supplies.
• Move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings and events.
• Observe and report areas needing repair; ensure security and safety checks.
• Comply with OSHA/EPA regulations and safety protocols.
• Operate cleaning equipment and vehicles as required.

General Description

This position will work collaboratively with others to provide a clean and safe environment for the employees and public occupying State facilities. This position is responsible for general cleaning in various areas and on a variety of different surfaces. This position is for a full-time, night custodian.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for general cleaning, vacuuming floors and furniture, emptying trash and recycling containers, dusting, mopping, sanitizing, washing windows and mirrors, and cleaning/stocking restrooms, bathrooms, and offices.
• Learn where custodial supplies are kept and replenish supplies when needed.
• Observe and identify areas that need repair and submit information to the supervisor.
• Comply with state and federal policies such as OSHA and EPA.
• Operates and maintains equipment, including hand and shop tools.
• Moves furniture and sets up conference rooms for meetings and events.
• Performs designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety, checks building systems for proper function, and updates security logs.
• Performs chemical renovations.
• Monitors fire protection systems.

Preferences

Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with cleaning materials and chemicals.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance.
• Knowledge of power and manual tools.
• Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma

Experience: 0-6 months of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)

OR

Education & Experience Substitution: 1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

Physical Working Conditions

• Exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, bio-hazards, and elements.
• Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Notes

• FLSA: Non-Exempt
• This is for a full-time, Monday-Friday night-time position with a shift differential.
• Employment is subject to a successful applicant passing a background check.
