Job summary

State of Wyoming seeks a dependable Custodian to join the facilities team at the Thyra Thomson Office Building. Responsibilities include cleaning, replenishing supplies, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for state employees and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning: vacuum, mop, dust, empty trash and sanitize restrooms and offices.
  • Restock supplies and maintain storage areas.
  • Identify areas in need of repair and report to supervisor.
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, carpet cleaners.
  • Conduct security rounds and monitor building systems for proper function.

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team at the Thyra Thomson Office Building. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all state employees and visitors

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for general cleaning, vacuuming floors and furniture, emptying trash and recycling containers, dusting, mopping, sanitizing, washing windows and mirrors, and cleaning/stocking restrooms, bathrooms, and offices.
  • Learns where custodial supplies are kept and replenishes supplies when needed.
  • Observes and identifies areas that need repair and submits information to the supervisor.
  • Complies with state and federal policies such as OSHA and EPA.
  • Operates and maintains equipment, including vacuums, riding floor cleaners, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, and hand and shop tools.
  • Moves furniture and sets up conference rooms for meetings and events.
  • Performs designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety, checks building systems for proper function, and updates security logs.
  • Performs chemical renovations.
  • Monitors fire protection systems.
  • May assist with outside building and grounds duties such as trash and snow removal.
PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with PPE, emergency procedures, cleaning methods, cleaning materials, and chemicals.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of power and manual tools.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma

Experience: 0-6 months of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)

OR

Education & ExperienceSubstitution: 1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, biohazards, and elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • This is adaytime position.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Employment is subject to a successful applicant passing a background check.
