Job summary

Mahoning County Commissioners is seeking a Custodian under the supervision of the Supervisor of Buildings and the Facilities Director to maintain a clean environment for all staff and visitors. The role covers standard janitorial duties across offices and public areas, with reporting of maintenance needs and safety concerns.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and a valid Driver’s License. Prior custodial experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Previous experience in custodial or housekeeping work preferred but not required.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Gather and empty wastebaskets, change liners, in all offices and work areas, and remove trash.
• Clean and supply rest rooms with towels, soap and toilet paper.
• Dust furniture and windowsills.
• Clean and polish woodwork, brass, marble, doorplates, furniture and other fixtures.
• Floor maintenance, including clean, sweep and mop floors; clean carpets, vacuum and spot clean; using dust mops, wet mops and vacuum cleaner.
• Move furniture, with or without assistance.
• Wash building windows, mirrors and elevator doors and panels.
• Sweep and clean building sidewalks and walkways using brooms or shovels.
• Remove snow from sidewalks and walkways; spread snow melting salt and chemicals.
• Empty outside trash and cigarette receptacles.
• Maintain work areas, supplies and equipment in a clean, orderly and proper manner; notify management of low inventory levels.
• Attend in-service training and educational sessions as assigned.
• Report malfunctioning equipment, lights or plumbing.
• Clean publicly used countertops and reception counters.
• Lock and unlock assigned buildings or offices; secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn off lights.
• Attend to cleaning emergencies when necessary.
• Safely operate all job related equipment.
• Perform additional duties and assignments as requested.
