Reporting to the Director of Facilities, a Custodian's responsibility is to provide a safe, attractive, clean, and comfortable environment for students, staff, and the general public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Sweep classrooms, dust furniture and shelving, and dispose of refuse daily in assigned work areas.
2. Clean corridors after school each day and during the day when conditions require it.
3. Scrub and disinfect toilet room floors and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains in assigned work areas daily.
4. Maintain all floors in a clean and attractive condition as well as in a good state of preservation.

1. High school diploma.
2. Must successfully complete state-required clearances and training regarding the prevention and reporting of child abuse.
3. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups or employees of the Academy.
4. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide two-digit numbers and perform operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
5. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to drive between Academy buildings. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Academy requirements.

Work Environment

Work may be indoors or outdoors, near moving mechanical equipment, and with potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level varies from quiet to loud. Occasionally, extended or irregular hours are required, including snow shoveling during winter months.
