Job Summary: Custodian cleans and maintains the school building and grounds, sets up equipment for special events, and assists school personnel with work requests.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Clean assigned areas, assist with general cleanup, and perform emergency cleaning as needed.
2. Inspect, maintain, and repair heating, cooling, electrical, mechanical, and sound equipment.
3. Change air filters and maintain custodial equipment.
4. Maintain and repair fixtures and furniture, including assembling furniture.
5. Assist students with lockers, doors, baskets, and bleachers.
6. Care for grounds: watering, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, trash pickup, and snow removal, operating related equipment.
7. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and gym floors, install and maintain equipment, and assist with refinishing gym floors.
8. Set up and clean up for school events and programs.
9. Work with the community during school functions, including setup, crowd control, and cleanup.
10. Assist cafeteria staff with heavy lifting, cleanup, and waste disposal.
11. Maintain building security, perform checks, and respond to emergencies.
12. Check emergency lights and fire extinguishers.
13. Stock supplies, check shipments, and assist with inventory and work requests.
14. Open classrooms for substitutes and community programs.
15. Assist with repairs and maintenance requests.
16. Help maintain order within the school environment.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 months of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
• District custodial training certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
• Understanding of cleaning, sanitation, and emergency procedures.
• Knowledge of SDS and ability to operate/repair small to medium equipment.
• Ability to use office equipment and maintain property and inventory.

Physical Demands: Heavy work involving exerting up to 50 pounds frequently and 20 pounds constantly. Must have abilities such as balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
