Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking a Custodial Supervisor 1 to oversee staff within an assigned area under the Senior Custodial Supervisor. The role includes monthly building audits, staff training, special project supervision, equipment and key inventories, and follow-up on work orders.

The position also involves conducting performance appraisals, safety/in-field meetings, and back-up coverage for the supervisor and area.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and two to five year of custodial experience.
• Experience in the custodial profession and in assigning work, training and development, and performance counseling.
• Experience operating machines, tools, and equipment used on the job: wet/dry mops; standard/hi-speed floor machines; square buffers; dry foam/wet extractor type carpet shampoo equipment; upright, back-pack and wet/dry vacuum cleaners; mop buckets and wringers; automatic (electric/battery) scrubbers.
• Experience in effective oral and interpersonal communication skills to interact with all members of the campus community and staff on a variety of subjects including (but not limited to) work requests, customer service, complaints, and performance, as well as provide written reports and instructions, and develop processes for task assignment and completion. Experience using computers and software applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
• Experience independently organizing work to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous projects, distribute effort appropriate among the projects, meet deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity.
• Experience with customer service skills to follow through on customer requests to resolve problems, answer questions, and use available resources and references.
• Demonstrated knowledge in the established safety procedures in the use and handling of hazardous materials and toxic waste.

Responsibilities

• Oversee employees within an assigned area under supervision of Senior Custodial Supervisor.
• Perform monthly building audits and back up coverage for supervisor and area.
• Provide training and retraining of staff, oversee special project work, and manage inventory of equipment and keys.
• Review work orders and perform follow up inspections for completion of work; conduct safety and in-field meetings.
• Write and conduct performance appraisals; address performance issues with timely feedback.
• Assist in supply orders and locker inventory; ensure equipment and custodial inventory are properly maintained.
