Job summary

Didlake, Inc. is seeking a Lead Janitor in Portsmouth, VA to oversee custodial staff and ensure high-quality cleaning in accordance with federal contract requirements.

You will direct daily operations, assign tasks, train staff, and maintain safety standards while upholding Didlake’s mission to serve people with disabilities. The role requires prior supervisory experience in custodial or maintenance services, a valid Real ID, and a driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Prior supervisory experience in a custodial or maintenance environment.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and support employees with disabilities.
• Strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and teamwork.
• Access to the work site requires a valid Real ID.
• Have a valid driver's license and be insurable under Didlake's automobile policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of custodial staff assigned to the contract.
• Plan, assign, and direct work in accordance with contract requirements, Didlake policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
• Clean hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevator banks, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
• Clean floors using brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
• Polish metalwork such as fixtures and fittings.
• Wash windows, door panels, and sills.
• Empty wastebaskets and remove trash.
• Replenish bathroom and floor supplies.
• Assign tasks, issue supplies and equipment, and inspect completed work for quality and compliance with standards.
• Train employees on assigned work, proper use of equipment, supplies, and safety procedures.
• Address employee and customer concerns, resolving issues or referring them to a supervisor as needed.
• Serve as a role model by demonstrating dependability, strong work ethic, business ethics, and professional appearance.
• Foster a positive team environment and support quality performance.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation accurately and timely.
• Act as a good steward of employer and government resources.
• Follow all safety standards and guidelines in the use of equipment and job-related activities.
• Fill in for general cleaning staff as needed.
• Transport teams, supplies, and equipment to worksites as required.
• Complete and maintain all required Didlake training.
