This position is also responsible for training employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of manually operated tools, electrically-powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents and chemicals. The Custodial Supervisor fosters a welcoming, supportive, and diverse workforce and environment.This position will require 7 day availability including one weekend a month on call. Custodial Supervisors are designated as essential employees when the College is closed. This position will be responsible for supervising the 2nd shift (4:30pm - 1am).ResponsibilitiesSupervises a team of cleaners and janitors in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, fitness centers, laboratories, furnishings and equipment. Coordinates requested function set-ups, snow removal operations and response to emergency conditions.Establish custodial procedures by scheduling work activities including weekend coverage, adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special projects.Conduct regular inspections of assigned building areas to ensure the work of custodial staff meets the quality of the department and the College. Provides hands-on training to custodial staff in effective cleaning procedures, proper use of equipment and cleaning solutions, and environmental health and safety regulations. Develop an effective team of custodial staff by hiring and instructing all employees in the proper methods of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance, evaluating individual performances to meet established standards. Manages employee performance; provide counsel or disciplinary actions as necessary. Demonstrate sound judgement in the application of performance management in accordance with both the collective bargaining agreement and established College policies. Ensure that custodial staff has the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed, completing request forms for replacement items, and storing the supplies and equipment in secure storage. Ensure that administrative records and reports regarding custodial staff are accurate and current by reviewing employee time reports and monitoring employee absences. Assume the duties and responsibilities of other Custodial Supervisors as needed.Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge, respect, and development of skills.Required knowledge, skills and abilitiesHigh school diploma or equivalent work experience.Three years of experience in custodial services. Two years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent with a staff of 10.Possess and maintain a valid NYS drivers' license for at least 2 years.Knowledge of commercial cleaning standards, chemical supplies, and heavy-duty building maintenance equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills. Demonstrated proficiency with various computer software systems and applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications. Ability to move, position, transport and place objects up to and including 75 pounds as needed.Ability to work, ascend and descend on ladders and use a Genie lift.Preferred knowledge, skills and abilitiesBachelor's Degree.Four years of related experience including managing a unionized workforce.
