Job summary

The Custodial Manager at University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine, under general supervision, coordinates and supervises janitorial staff including FSOM employees, temp-to-hire, and contract personnel, overseeing day-to-day cleaning operations.

You will ensure compliance with safety practices per USC, FSOM, and OSHA; manage work orders, supplies, and inspections; and evaluate staff performance while maintaining high cleaning standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of job-related experience or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and coordinates daily cleaning services for all FSOM buildings, schedules floor maintenance, plans and schedules staff, and performs weekly inspections.
• Manages work orders and delegates duties to staff, ensuring all work meets FSOM cleaning standards.
• Maintains consumable supplies in stock, records quantities and usage, and keeps equipment in good operating condition.
• Stays current on cleaning activities, attends training sessions, and ensures compliance with building safety codes.
• Tracks and manages janitorial staff time and attendance, completes performance evaluations, and monitors shift supervisors’ inspections.
• Responds to trouble calls and performs other duties as needed.

Job description

Under general supervision from the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Custodial Manager coordinates and supervises janitorial staff, including Floyd School of Medicine employees, temp‑to‑hire, and/or contract‑based personnel. The manager oversees the day‑to‑day operations of janitorial services and demonstrates compliance with safety practices and requirements as outlined by the University of South Carolina, Floyd School of Medicine, and OSHA policies, procedures, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and coordinates daily cleaning services for all FSOM buildings, schedules floor maintenance, plans and schedules staff, and performs weekly inspections (30% of time).
• Manages work orders and delegates duties to staff, ensuring all work meets FSOM cleaning standards (20% of time).
• Maintains consumable supplies in stock, records quantities and usage, and keeps all equipment in good operating condition (20% of time).
• Stays current on cleaning activities, practices, and procedures, attends training sessions, and ensures compliance with building safety codes (10% of time).
• Tracks and manages all janitorial staff time and attendance, completes performance evaluations promptly, and monitors shift supervisors’ inspections (10% of time).
• Responds to trouble calls and performs other duties as needed (10% of time).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a job‑related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of job‑related experience, or an equivalent combination of job‑related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
