Under general supervision from the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Custodial Manager coordinates and supervises janitorial staff, including Floyd School of Medicine employees, temp-to-hire, and/or contract-based personnel. Manages the day-to-day operations of janitorial services. Demonstrates compliance with regard to safety practices and requirements as outlined by the University of South Carolina, Floyd School of Medicine, and OSHA policies, procedures and regulations.
Oversees and coordinates the daily cleaning services for all FSOM buildings, including the scheduling of floor maintenance. Plans and schedules staff to their designated areas and shift coverage as needed. Performs weekly inspections of all FSOM buildings, to ensure the highest standard of service.

Manages work orders and delegates duties to staff as needed, ensuring that the FSOM levels of cleaning standards are at their highest. Ensures all work done by staff is being completed in accordance with the levels of expectation from FSOM facilities management.

Keeps consumable supplies in stock with an accurate count of quantities and usage. Ensures all janitorial closets remain stocked with consumable items. Ensures all equipment remains in good operation and condition, repairing or replacing as needed.

Stays up-to-date on all cleaning activities, practices, and procedures. Attends training sessions to maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety guidelines and requirements; ensures compliance with building safety codes. Becomes familiar with buildings and research areas.

Tracks and manages all janitorial staff time and attendance. Ensures all performance evaluations are completed in a timely manner with regular feedback to staff. Ensures all night and day shift supervisors/lead persons are inspecting staff work. Ensures supervisors/lead persons are responsible for ensuring all doors are locked and secured once their staff have finished cleaning the office or area they are in.
