Job summary

University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC is seeking a Custodial Manager to coordinate janitorial services, supervise staff, and ensure safety and compliance across FSOM facilities.

You will plan schedules, monitor cleaning quality, manage time/attendance, handle supplies, and respond to service requests on a 12-month basis with a standard 8:30am–5:00pm schedule, with flexibility as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • 3+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and prioritizing abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and review staff performance.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety documentation.
  • Knowledge of safety practices relevant to facilities management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily cleaning operations for all FSOM buildings and schedules floor maintenance.
  • Plans staff assignments and shift coverage; conducts weekly inspections.
  • Manages work orders and delegates duties; ensures cleaning standards are met.
  • Maintains inventory of consumables and ensures equipment is operational.
  • Keeps up-to-date on safety guidelines and building safety codes.
  • Tracks attendance and conducts timely performance evaluations.
  • Responds to trouble calls and performs other duties as needed.

Advertised Job Summary

Under general supervision from the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Custodial Manager coordinates and supervises janitorial staff, including Floyd School of Medicine employees, temp-to-hire, and/or contract-based personnel. Manages the day-to-day operations of janitorial services. Demonstrates compliance with regard to safety practices and requirements as outlined by the University of South Carolina, Floyd School of Medicine, and OSHA policies, procedures and regulations.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must be capable of planning, organizing and prioritizing work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to oversee the technical work and skill sets of staff.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety documents and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and perform detailed work.
  • Good reasoning skills needed.
  • Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment.
  • Required to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.
Job Duty

Oversees and coordinates the daily cleaning services for all FSOM buildings, including the scheduling of floor maintenance. Plans and schedules staff to their designated areas and shift coverage as needed. Performs weekly inspections of all FSOM buildings, to ensure the highest standard of service.
