Job summary

Vincennes University (VU) is seeking a Custodial Maintenance Associate to maintain cleanliness and general upkeep across campus facilities. The role requires adherence to safety policies and reliable performance.

You will operate custodial equipment, assist with snow removal, and support diverse tasks for classrooms, offices, labs, and common areas. The shift runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• General cleaning of educational facilities, including conference rooms, offices, classrooms, labs, stairwells, etc.
• Cleaning, sanitizing and servicing of restrooms.
• Trash removal from work areas.
• Daily maintenance of varied floor coverings, e.g. tile, terrazzo, carpet; and cleaning of walls, furniture, entrances.
• Preventive maintenance of assigned custodial equipment.
• Maintain security of the assigned job site, equipment, and supplies.
• Read and follow SDS instructions and related policies.
• Assist in other duties as assigned including special crews and snow removal.

Expected Hours of Work/Shifts Available: Monday thru Friday;7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Position Summary:

Responsible for the cleanliness and general maintenance for asection of a building or numerous buildings as deemed necessary.Work shift will be at the discretion of the appropriate supervisorand director. This person will assist in all areas as deemednecessary by the Dept. Supervisor or Director of PhysicalPlant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications - Must have excellent verbal communication skillsand be able to work independently and with other Physical Plantpersonnel.

• Preventive maintenance of assigned custodial equipment.
• Maintain security of the assigned job site, equipment, andsupplies.
• Read, understand and comply with SDS instructions and otherrelated policies of the University.
• May be required to provide leadership for or be assigned to,specialty crews during certain periods of the year, i.e. scrubcrew, etc. Will assist as needed with landscaping/grounds,moving/setup, repair/ renovation, or other duties.
• Assist in snow removal as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• Capability to safely operate motorized custodial equipment; i.e.automatic scrubber, buffer, carpet extractors, etc.
• Maintain positive working relations and communications withco-workers, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
• The ability to perform regular custodial duties in alleducational facilities, as well as in specialty areas such aslaboratories or Funeral Services.
• Maintain good work ethics and attendance.
• Willing to work weekends, holiday, snow removal crew, specialassignments, assist with event set-up as needed.
• Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safetyequipment provided by the University.
• Provide instruction to assistants and assist with training of newco-workers.
• Depending on assignment may be required to participate in weekendtrash rotation and snow removal crew, carry a pager/cell phone andrespond to pager/cell phone calls after hours or weekends. Willwork in response to short-notice priority situations and workassignments as necessary.

Physical Demands:

• Standing, walking, bending, climbing, carrying, reaching,handling, use of hands to handle objects, tools or controls, 50% ormore of the work day.
• Occasionally lifting 50-100 pounds and over.
• Must have adequate dexterity and able to work off ladders,stairs, and in hot/humid conditions.
