Job summary

The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf is seeking a Curriculum Coordinator/Instructional Coach to improve student achievement by building teacher efficacy and strong curriculum alignment for Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing students.

Lead curriculum development, model instructional practices, and collaborate with the Director of Academic Affairs to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment, data-driven instruction, and responsive professional development.

Qualifications

• Masters degree required, preferably in areas such as Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Instructional Design, Curriculum Instruction or related fields including Design, Instruction, and Assessment.
• At least five (5) years teaching experience in an educational setting.
• Extensive knowledge of language development, best practices, common core standards, and integration of technology.
• Fluency in ASL required.
• Understanding of Danielson Framework for curriculum practitioners preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure curriculum is aligned with state standards and address gaps.
• Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
• Use modeling and coaching strategies to support curriculum implementation.
• Assist teachers with planning, pacing, and differentiated lessons.
• Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, and technology.
• Support Curriculum-Based Assessments and Progress Monitoring.
• Provide ongoing evaluation of curriculum maps with cyclical updates.
• Work with academic departments to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment.
• Lead curriculum review cycles and summer stipend work.

Title: Curriculum Coordinator/Instructional Coach

Reports to: Director of Academic Affairs

Employment Information: Full time, 10-month, bargaining unit position

Summary Statement:

The Curriculum Coordinator/Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement through the building of teacher efficacy and fidelity to the curriculum. The role of the coordinator/coach is to build teacher capacity and understanding of instructional practices as related to Education of Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing students, language development in American Sign Language and English, bilingual strategies, & Common Core and Data-Driven Instruction. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, life-long learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success.

The coordinator/coach will collaborate with the Director of Academic Affairs, the Educational Leadership Team and curriculum committees in the development, writing, alignment, implementation, and assessment of curriculum throughout each part of the curriculum review cycle.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree required, preferably in related areas such as Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Instructional Design, Curriculum Instruction or related fields which include Design, Instruction, and Assessment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure that the school’s curriculum is aligned with the state standards, address gaps and misalignments
• Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
• Use modeling and coaching strategies to support curriculum implementation
• Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
• Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, technology, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
• Work with principals/designee to support Curriculum-Based Assessments and Progress Monitoring
• Provide ongoing evaluation of curriculum maps/curriculum guides, with cyclical updates of objectives and assessments
• Work with academic departments to ensure both vertical and horizontal alignment, best practices and implementation
• Support instructional planning/curriculum implementation through informal observations (non-evaluative) and provide modeling, coaching, and feedback as appropriate
• Develop teachers’ ability to assess student understanding, and collect and use data to monitor student progress
• Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
• Collaborate with School Librarian to ensure current student resources and literature
• Participate in and/or lead a curriculum review cycle which may include stipend work in the summer months.
• Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Director of Academic Affairs
