Job summary

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians seeks a Cultural Activities Assistant to help plan and coordinate cultural events that preserve and restore Anishnaabe life skills, customs, and teachings.

You will assist in budgeting, scheduling, and supplying cultural programs, with responsibilities including youth transport, chaperoning, and calendar development across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: None.
• First Aid and CPR Certification preferred; valid driver’s license and insurability by the Tribe required; background check.
• Must maintain good moral character; must comply with Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn Native American culture; ability to use office machines; strong communication with colleagues and guests.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing and coordinating cultural events and activities.
• Aids in tracking event attendance for future planning.
• Submit rental payments to accounting department and prepare vouchers/purchase orders.
• Order and organize supplies for events, camps and ceremonies.
• Develop annual camp and powwow calendars and set goals with target dates.
• Transport youth to venues and serve as a chaperone for overnight stays.
