Job summary

Fleet Science Center in San Diego is seeking an Element 8 Café Cook to support daily cafe operations, focusing on back-of-house food preparation, expediting orders, equipment maintenance, and inventory control.

You will handle hot and cold items, maintain plating consistency, follow safety rules, and work as part of a fast-paced team, with opportunities to cross-train on concessions and dinner service.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in a commercial kitchen, deli, or food preparation environment preferred.
• Must be willing to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit or ServSafe certification, and an RBS certificate, or already possess those certifications.
• Strong knife skills and ability to follow complex recipes.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities; attentive to detail.

Responsibilities

• Cut, prepare, and cook hot and cold foods including meats, cheeses, sandwiches, bowls, wraps, salads, and pizza with plating consistency and timely ticketing.
• Safely operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment (ovens, grills, slicers) per Health Department standards.
• Stock hot/cold cases, fridges and freezers; ensure FIFO rotation and freshness.
• Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required.
• Assist with opening, mid, and closing duties; support inventory checks and counts.
