Job summary

The Fleet Science Center Cafe team is seeking a friendly Cafe Team Member in San Diego to deliver exceptional guest service, assist in light food prep, and maintain a clean, inviting café environment.

You will handle POS transactions, optimize sales with suggestive upselling, and ensure accurate orders across dine-in, take-out, and concessions. Flexible schedule required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in retail, food service, or a cash-handling role.
• Exceptional communication skills; remain calm, professional, and friendly under pressure.
• Valid Food Handler’s Permit and an RBS certificate on first day.
• Ability to learn ingredients, allergens, and preparation methods to assist guests with dietary restrictions.
• Ability to handle currency quickly and accurately; basic math for making change and calculating totals.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level hospitality by greeting guests and answering menu questions.
• Maximize sales using suggestive selling techniques (e.g., daily specials or add-ons).
• Operate POS system with precision; perform cash handling, card processing, and drawer reconciliation.
• Bridge between kitchen and guest; ensure all orders are accurate, complete, and presented professionally.
• Stock and maintain hot/cold cases, grab-and-go displays, and beverage stations; ensure signage and pricing are visible.
• Assist BOH with light prep during peak hours or as needed.
• Maintain a pristine dining area; sanitize high-touch surfaces and follow safety standards.
• Complete temperature checks for display cases and follow FIFO for all items.
• Cross-train on concessions to ensure full Fleet operations.
• Assist with washing dishes as needed.
