Job summary

Balboa Park Cultural Partnership's Fleet Science Center in San Diego, CA is seeking a friendly Cafe Team Member for part-time hours. You will greet guests, answer menu questions, take orders, handle cash, and keep display cases stocked and clean.

The role involves light food prep, quick learning of ingredients and allergens, and adhering to health-safety standards. A Food Handler’s Permit and RBS certificate are preferred; reliable, energetic individuals with a guest-first attitude excel.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in retail, food service, or a cash-handling role.
• High energy level and a "guest-first" attitude.
• Must possess (or be able to obtain on first day) a valid Food Handler’s Permit as well as an RBS certificate.
• Ability to quickly learn ingredients, allergens, and preparation methods to assist guests with dietary restrictions.
• Ability to handle currency quickly and accurately; basic mental math for making change and calculating totals.
• Ability to double-check order accuracy and maintain the aesthetic "look" of the front-facing food displays.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and provide high level hospitality; answer menu questions with product knowledge.
• Maximize sales through suggestive selling of add-ons and daily specials.
• Operate the POS system accurately; handle cash and card transactions, reconcile drawer.
• Coordinate orders between kitchen and guests for dine-in, take-out, or delivery.
• Stock and display cases, signage, and pricing; maintain clean, inviting environment.
• Assist with light food preparation and packaging during peak hours.
• Maintain cleanliness and adhere to Health Department safety standards.
