Job summary

UPMC Southwestern Pennsylvania's Cardiothoracic Critical Care fellowship offers a one-year immersion in a high-volume CTICU, focusing on advanced management of post-cardiotomy patients, cardiogenic shock, ECMO, and complex cardiothoracic cases.

Trainees work under CTICU attendings, participate in day rounding and night coverage, and gain hands-on experience with ECMO cannulation, ECPR, and transfers, preparing to lead as cardiothoracic intensivists.

Qualifications

• One-year non-ACGME fellowship for board-certified or board-eligible intensivists.
• Immersive CTICU training focusing on advanced cardiothoracic critical care knowledge, technology and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Spend several months in a 28-bed CTICU gaining in-depth knowledge of CTICU pathology, management and technology.
• ~22 weeks of daytime rounding with graduated autonomy and ECMO/cardiogenic shock involvement.
• ~36-night shifts with independent overnight CTICU management and interhospital transfers.
