Job summary

Highmark Health in Pennsylvania is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to perform prescribed radiographic imaging procedures with independent judgment. The role requires preparing patients, selecting exposure factors, and documenting results.

Qualifications

• Minimum Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• ARRT Registered (RT) in radiography (R) or NMTCB registered (CNMT) required at time of hire.
• CT certification within 18 months of hire or transfer; prior CT experience preferred.
• CPR certification required; background checks as per policy.

Responsibilities

• Position patient and perform imaging procedures independently.
• Analyze results and identify issues with image quality.
• Take actions to resolve image quality issues including repositioning or repeating procedures.
• Enter, transmit and report scan results.
• Review patient history and physician orders.
• Educate patient regarding procedures, equipment and exams.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications when ordered.
• Monitor patient condition and respond to changes as appropriate.
• Prepare equipment and supplies and select proper exposure factors.
• Implement safety standards and perform quality control on equipment.
• Troubleshoot, resolve, and report equipment malfunctions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

General Overview

This job Performs prescribed radiographic imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.

Essential Responsibilities

• Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s) independently.
• Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
• Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
• Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (40%)
• Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
• Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (20%)
• When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
• Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (20%)
• Prepares equipment and supplies.
• Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
• Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
• Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (20%)
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum Associate’s degree; or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• ARRT Registered (RT) in radiography (R) or NMTCB registered (CNMT) is required at time of hire.
• Preferred Prior experience working as a CT Technologist.
• One of the following sets of certifications is required within 18 months of hire or transfer, if already certified, active certification must be maintained: Computed Tomography (CT) certified OR NMTCB registered (CT) certification.
• For employees already in a CT role prior to July 1, 2022: CT certification is not required if not already held; however, existing CT certifications must be maintained.
• CPR – American Heart Association Act 34.
• Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Act 33.
• Child Abuse Clearance Certificate Act 73.
• FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.

Additional Employment Requirements

• Computed Tomography (CT) certified OR NMTCB registered (CT) certification.
• For employees already in a CT role prior to July 1, 2022: CT certification is not required if not already held; however, existing CT certifications must be maintained.
