Join to apply for the CT Technologist (Casual) role at UPMC

UPMC Mercy is seeking a casual CT Technologist to join their team in Downtown Pittsburgh!

The CT Technologist will work varied shifts, with 8-hour or 12-hour shifts available! Shifts can include daylight, evening, nights, weekends, and holiday hours. No on-call required!

The CT Technologist performs imaging procedures at an advanced level, not requiring constant supervision. This role competently performs a variety of advanced technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects level of education, experience, and manager discretion at the time of offer.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs computed tomography procedures utilizing established scan protocols, including contrast administration without requiring constant supervision.
  2. Utilizes complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, reconstruction, and documentation of image data and completes procedures according to protocol.
  3. Ensures all exams are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
  4. Administers PO, rectal, and IV contrast per physician orders/department policy and assess patients for potential risk factors prior to the administration of the contrast media required for the imaging procedure.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.
  6. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment to adjust protocols and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic CT purposes.
  7. Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
  8. Able to work as a team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
  9. Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures.
  10. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data.
  11. Documents patient history in electronic record, as required.
  12. Demonstrates proper technique in venipuncture, demonstrating proper use of power injector according to set protocols set by department and/or manufacturer.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an ARRT-approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of accredited CNMT program.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain CT Board Certification within 12 months of hire date.
  • ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33
  • Act 34
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
Advancement:
  • Graduate of an ARRT-approved school of Radiologic Technology or completion of accredited CNMT program.
  • 2 years of CT experience required.
  • Must have obtained a performance review rating of strong/solid/good on most recent performance review to be eligible for promotion.
Additional Licensure and Certifications:
  • ARRT certified as a CT Technologist.
  • CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ARRT CT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
