UPMC Mercy is seeking a casual Interventional Technologist to support the Peripheral Interventional Radiology Department in Downtown Pittsburgh!

The Interventional Technologist will work 10-hour daylight shifts, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This role requires working two shifts per month, with some on-call obligations. The technologist will be included in the holiday rotation, be on call for a night shift (5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.) once per month, and on call for a weekend once every 6 weeks.

The Technologist performs imaging procedures independently, applying judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to use prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. The Peripheral IR Department specializes in sterile, invasive procedures with image guidance and fluoroscopy.

Responsibilities:

• Administers contrast media according to protocols under the proceduralist's guidance.
• Performs proper positioning and radiographic techniques for all interventional procedures.
• Understands patient preparation, equipment operation, and monitoring systems.
• Properly identifies patients using two identifiers and follows universal protocol during procedures.
• Reviews patient history and physician orders, applying departmental protocols for optimal data acquisition.
• Documents patient history in the electronic record as required.
• Maintains aseptic technique and patient safety during procedures, incorporating a time-out process.
• Communicates clearly with patients, explaining procedures to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Ensures exams are properly coded, tracked, networked for archiving and interpretation, and charges are entered correctly.
• Interacts professionally with patients and staff, demonstrating care, listening, dignity, and respect.
• Works effectively as part of the team within the department and other departments to expedite patient care.
• Supports other departments with general radiographic procedures when needed.
