Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, seeks a Patient Care Assistant for the Med Surg, 3 West unit. Schedule is Full Time Days, 7am-7pm, with work located at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of relevant experience required.
• Ability to perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and personal care.
• Assist patients with daily living activities and getting to rooms or vehicles.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical tasks such as oxygen setup, Foley care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weights, and input/output; perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
